Rita
Dibert
is a colourist at heart, whether she is creating paintings,
as she has done since a small child growing up in Flint,
Michigan or working in a variety of photographic, print
or drawing mediums. Whether delighting in colour for its’
own joy in a personal way or speaking out on a topical
issue, Rita orchestrates colour in subtle and refreshing
ways. The colours of her canvases change with the movement
of light through the day and they will delight you, as
they have her other collectors, over the years.
Her photographs will give you pleasure in their complexity
and strength. Images are available from suites of prints
from New Zealand, Japan, Eastern Europe, Ireland, India,
Thailand, Bali and the United States.
Rita trained in Painting, Printmaking and Photography
at the University of Michigan, (www.umich.edu),
Ann Arbor and the State University of New York’s
Photography concentration campus at the Visual Studies
Workshop (www.vsw.org)
in Rochester, New York, holding Masters of Fine Art from
both institutions. While at VSW she did an internship
at George Eastman House (www.eastmanhouse.org)
in the Exhibitions Department.
Rita came to New Zealand for both political and professional
reasons to head the physical and curriculum design of
the Photography Department at the Quay School of the Arts
in Whanganui in 1995 and is overjoyed to have made the
decision, sight unseen, to settle in that wonderful city.
Before coming to New Zealand she taught at the University
of Michigan Residential College, Ann Arbor, Hartwick College,
Oneonta, NY, Pomona College, Clairemont, CA and UNC Charlotte,
NC.
Rita proudly uses Golden Acrylics and is proud of her
over 20 year association with the Golden family. Visit
